Aftercare Instructions

Following these aftercare instructions are crucial for the retention of your lash extensions.  Not caring for your extensions is like getting a fresh hair style and then not washing your hair for six weeks!
AVOID FOR 24 HOURS
Avoid water, heat , facial services, facial products, and tanning for 24 hours.
KEEP THEM CLEAN
Clean your lashes everyday.  We recommend keeping Borboleta Beauty Lash Bath and Clean Swoop Brush in your shower.

By keeping your lashes clean, you will stop bacteria from harboring and oils from breaking down the bonds which will help retention.

Clean directly after excessive sweating or heavy work-outs
OIL-FREE ONLY
All cleansers, makeup removers, and eyeliners must be oil free.  Oil breaks down the adhesive bonds.

Keep your head back when using hair conditioner.
DON'T TOUCH
Do not excessively rub your eyes or pull on lashes.  Avoid touching your extensions, especially at the base, the natural oils from your hands will break down the adhesive bond.
AVOID EXTREME HEAT
Intense heat from the oven, lighters, or grills can take your curl out and kink the ends.

A Few Additional Tips...

BRUSH WHEN DRY
Wait to brush your lashes when they are dry for maximum fluff!

You can use your blow-dryer's cool setting if needed.
SLEEP
Use a silk pillowcase and/or sleep on your back to decrease lash loss during sleep.
SEALANT
Sealant is like hairspray for your lashes.  Helps the lashes stay in place...but use sparingly!  Only recommended for classic lashes or tips of textured lashes.
SPRAY TANS
Do not get a spray tan before lashes.  Spray tans are very sticky and greasy and hard to clean off.  Residue on your lashes will prevent the adhesive from bonding.
COME TO YOUR APPT WITH CLEAN LASHES
Natural oils, makeup, or product on your lashes will prevent the adhesive from bonding.  Wash your lashes immediately before your appointment or arrive early to clean at our cleansing station.
MAKEUP REMOVER
If you wear makeup on or around your eyes, use Borboleta's Breakdown Makeup Remover PRIOR to cleansing lashes.  Otherwise, you are just smearing the makeup around and will not get an effective cleanse.

Tips for Healthy Lashes

La Vie places great care in ensuring your natural lash health is maintain.  However, there will always be some stress put on the natural lash.  Here are some tips you can do to keep your naturals strong and healthy.
LASH SERUM
Apply Borboleta lash serum each night. Nourishes natural lashes and safe for extensions.
SUPPLEMENTS
Supplements increase hair growth and strength. 

Recommended products: Biotin (Hair, Nail, & Skin,) Horsetail Grass
STAY SHORT
The longer the extensions, the more weight it's putting on your natural lash, which can cause damage.  Use the appropriate length and thickness for your natural lash.  

If your extensions are droopy or twisting, they are too heavy for you.

Longer lashes do not always better, they tend to look more spidery.  The shorter you go, the fuller you look.  

If you want more drama, go fuller, not longer.  Try a Mix or Volume set.
AVOID MASCARA AND LINER
These products are very difficult to fully clean off extensions, even with makeup remover.  This causes more weight on your natural lash and the potential for bacteria and nasty infections.  

In addition, they will permanently close volume fans, resulting in unbalanced weight on your natural lashes.

For liner, we recommend using a dark eye shadow to line your eyes rather than a liquid or pencil liner.
BRUSH DAILY
Brushing lashes consistently promotes a healthy growth cycle. 

​Also, another reason to keep them clean: when lashes are ready to shed, if they are stuck in place by product or oils, they may signal to your body another lash is not needed and send your growth cycle into hibernation.  When the lash finally falls out, it could take serval months to grow a new one in.
